Happy 4th

Purple and yellow. Do you find it an odd colour combination to celebrate the 4th of July? Well, I do love the red-blue-white colour combo, but I am neither American nor living in America. The fact is, the 4th of July is also my city's holiday, so what better way to celebrate it than to wear its own colours? I do love yellow, but I am not a fan of purple (though I have purple things) and I am not a fan of the drop waist dress style (in me), but oddly enough, I do like this outfit! Call me a creep. So whether you're celebrating Independence day in the US, Coimbra's day in Portugal, anything else or nothing at all, I wish you a happy 4th of July!
Oh, and yes, there's my new hair!

Your hair looks amazing. Do you know why they made 4th july your city's holiday? I'd be scared to compete with the US of A. x hivenn

@Jazzy E (hivenn): My city is actually older than the USA so if there was something to be scared to compete it would be them no? Although I think that's just stupid. You can read more on wikipedia or google it to know why is it on this day.

Well, I think it's refreshing to read something other than Independence Day stuff today. Being the Grinch that I am. I love purple and yellow as a combo, and I'd love to know more about what (if anything) your city gets up to on this day.

Have a good one. It's raining today in Barcelona, grrrr.

July 4th is actually our real Independence Day, when the Americans left the Philippines BUT our government likes to pretend it happened 50 years before on the 12th of June. :)) Just sharing some history!

And I love how you pinned the Matroyshka felt doll! Great touch, Raquel!

@Emily: There's a huge parade every 4 years to honour the patron of the city, which is the Rainha Santa Isabel (Saint Queen Elizabeth), the last one was in 2009. You can learn more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coimbra in the part that says municipality holiday. :)
Yesterday here was awful too, so grey and it even rained, but today is sunny again yay.

@Arianne: It's always great to learn some history so share as you please! :) Well, governments like to pretend a lot of stuff right? hehe. So have a happy "real" independence day!

Frankly I think purple and yellow really isn't done enough - it's a fantastic combo, especially for summer. I love your matryoshka brooch and the drop waist on the dress (1920s style - love it).

Happy Coimbra Day, Raquel! You sure look lovely dressed in your city's colors :)

I tend not to like drop waist dresses on me either. They can be difficult to wear unless you have ''the right one.'' I like this one on you, especially with those shoes. Your hair looks really good and your Matrioshka pin is cute!

I am definitely going back to Greece!

Também não sou fã da cintura mais "descaída", mas a verdade é que o vestido é bonito, e fica-te bem Raquel.
E o pin da matrioshka é tão fofinho.

That is a pretty little drop-waist dress! I really like the pin tucks and the buttons on the straps. Your hair came out great; it has such a nice wave to it.

Your dress is gorgeous but your matroyshka pin makes the outfit with that little pop of color! Super cute =D

That pin is so cute and unique! Love it. From the looks of it, they wouldn't be that hard to make, either. What do you think?

Happy Coimbra's Day to you, then! I hope you enjoyed it as much as us Americans enjoyed our Independence Day yesterday. :)

P.S. Cute hair, too!
