Saudade

My last photoshoot at my hometown, Coimbra, quite a sunny day! I got away with wearing short sleeves, but of course I had a coat with me. It was in January though.
The word in the title, "Saudade", is a Portuguese only word, there is no other word in the world that means the same, though translating to English it would be "the sentiment of missing someone or something". And that is what I'm feeling, despite being here for so little time, I already miss my boyfriend and my family.
On other news, I finally got myself a tripod, and I'm still adapting on working with it but it is so good not to depend on someone to take pictures!

Cute dress. E sim, Saudade é uma palavra especial, e faz-nos sentir especiais, nós o povo português, que só exista na nossa língua.
É sempre difícil adaptarmo - nos a um país novo; decerto com o passar do tempo vais-te habituando.
E quanto ao tripé, tens toda a razão.
Podes levar o teu tempo, não te preocupares se a pessoa que está a tirar fotos está a ficar aborrecida ou não.

Saudade. I really try explaining it to people but it is just not the same. Such a beautiful word. Its not just a word it is a feeling, sadness yet hope.

I remember learning the word saudade when I took some Portuguese lessons. I think the closest English translation is "homesickness," although my teacher/friend was adamant that there was more to it than that.

I really love your outfit... the texture of the dress and the tights, the grey socks and the black boots--it's awesome!

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling that way. It must be difficult. Have you been connecting with your boyfriend and family through Skype or something similar? Though it may not completely ease the feeling of missing your loved ones, it may help alleviate it a bit.

I have to agree with Emily about your outfit - everything about it is awesome!

Stefanie, that is the best description of the word that I've heard so far :) And Emily, it's not homesickness only, it's much more that that, can't really be explained, maybe we can discuss this later(I didn't know you had Portuguese lessons!)! And other Emily, yes, I've been connecting with them by chat and phone, but it's not the same, especially since I have no plan to see them soon :/

And thanks for your compliments!!

aww I'm so sorry you're feeling like that :( it must be very hard to move to a new country with no family. I am sure it takes time to settle in though. This dress is very pretty.

Saudade é sem duvida uma das palavras mais bonitas da nossa língua... é compreensível que sintas isso, é sempre difícil adaptarmo-nos e um país novo ainda por cima sem família por perto, espero que com o passar do tempo se torne mais fácil! Força Raquel, e aproveita bem Londres, quem me dera estar ai *_*
